NEU Screen Shows High Accuracy in Detecting Cognitive Impairment in Older Persons Living With HIV

The NEUrocognitive (NEU) Screen is a practical tool proposed to screen for HIV-associated cognitive impairment in the clinical setting. This is a pencil-and-paper method that can be applied rapidly (≤10 minutes for administration) and has no copyright limitations. In this study, we aimed at investigating its diagnostic accuracy in an older population of persons living with HIV (PLWH), with cutoffs set at 30, 40, 50, and 60 years.

Nighttime Hypoxia Affects Global Cognition, Memory, and Executive Function in Community-Dwelling Individuals With Hypertension

The objective of this study was to determine which respiratory and architectural sleep parameters are related to cognitive function and cognitive status (mild cognitive impairment [MCI] versus normal cognitive aging [NCA]) in community-dwelling individuals with hypertension. Additionally, it aimed to determine whether the results changed in the presence or absence of vascular brain lesions (silent brain infarcts and extensive white matter hyperintensities [WMHs]).

The Barcelona Brain Health Initiative: Cohort Description and First Follow-Up

The Barcelona Brain Health Initiative is a longitudinal cohort study that began in 2017 and aims to understand and characterize the determinants of brain health maintenance in middle aged adults. A cohort of 4686 individuals between the ages of 40 and 65 years free from any neurological or psychiatric diseases was established, and we collected extensive demographic, socio-economic information along with measures of self-perceived health and lifestyles (general health, physical activity, cognitive activity, socialization, sleep, nutrition and vital plan).

Utility of the Parkinson’s disease-Cognitive Rating Scale for the Screening of Global Cognitive Status in Huntington’s Disease

Cognitive impairment is an essential feature of Huntington's disease (HD) and dementia is a predictable outcome in all patients. However, validated instruments to assess global cognitive performance in the field of HD are lacking. We aimed to explore the utility of the Parkinson's disease-Cognitive Rating Scale (PD-CRS) for the screening of global cognition in HD.

Effects and Mechanisms of Cognitive, Aerobic Exercise, and Combined Training on Cognition, Health, and Brain Outcomes in Physically Inactive Older Adults: The Projecte Moviment Protocol

Age-related health, brain, and cognitive impairment is a great challenge in current society. Cognitive training, aerobic exercise and their combination have been shown to benefit health, brain, cognition and psychological status in healthy older adults. Inconsistent results across studies may be related to several variables. We need to better identify cognitive changes, individual variables that may predict the effect of these interventions, and changes in structural and functional brain outcomes as well as physiological molecular correlates that may be mediating these effects.
